HOUSTON, TX -- A 50-year-old woman was fatally injured Tuesday afternoon when she was hit by a pickup truck while crossing a southwest Houston road, reports the Houston Police Department.
First responders were dispatched to the scene in the 6000 block of Bissonnet Street shortly after 1:10 p.m.
The HPD's Vehicular Crimes Division said the woman was crossing the northbound lanes of Rampart Street from the south end of Bissonnet Street when a silver GMC Sierra pickup truck turned east onto Bissonnet and hit her.
Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department rushed the female pedestrian to Ben Taub General Hospital, where she died from her injuries. Her identity remains undisclosed at this time.
The driver of the pickup, a woman whose identity has also not been shared, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. She was found not to be impaired and was released after questioning.
Authorities have not clarified whether the victim was inside a marked crosswalk at the time of the incident, but an investigation remains ongoing.
