HOUSTON, TX -- One person died Thursday morning following a fiery single-vehicle crash on Interstate 45 in north Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
The accident happened in the 20400 block of I-45 (North Freeway), shortly after 6:00 a.m.
Investigators learned that the victim was driving a pickup truck southbound when, for reasons still unclear, the vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with the concrete base of lamp pole inside the median that divides the southbound main lanes of I-45 and the southbound service road. The impact of the crash caused the pickup to catch fire and become engulfed in flames.
First responders arrived on the scene to find the victim deceased at the scene.
No other major injuries were reported and no other vehicles appear to have been involved.
The HCSO Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate.
