HOUSTON, TX -- A 17-year-old boy has been charged following a hit-and-run pedestrian crash last Friday, December 15, in northwest Houston that claimed a woman's life, according to the Houston Police Department.
The fatal incident took place at 7700 Katy Freeway service road at around 11:25 p.m.
Investigators say the teen was driving a black Mercedes GLK350 eastbound at a high rate of speed when he tried to turn onto northbound Silber Road. Due to the high speed, the Mercedes failed to maintain a single lane and hit a curb and then a female pedestrian who was sleeping on the median. After the vehicle struck a wall, the teen driver tried to leave the scene but was kept at the scene by witnesses.
Responding paramedics with the Houston Fire Department pronounced the woman deceased at the scene, confirmed officials.
The teen suspect was taken into custody and has since been charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 182nd State District Court.
