HOUSTON, TX -- Two people died early Sunday as a result of a wrong-way crash on Interstate 10 in east Houston, according to ABC13.
The fatal collision unfolded on a span of the interstate (East Freeway) near Freeport Street, shortly after midnight. Harris County Sheriff's deputies said they received multiple calls about a reckless driver traveling in the wrong direction a short time before the incident.
Details remain limited, but a wrong-way driver is believed to have been intoxicated when their car hit another vehicle head-on.
The driver of the causing vehicle, whose identity remains unclear, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the second vehicle, 23-year-old Michelle Baez, also suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The driver was rushed to an area hospital for serious injuries and was put into surgery. No updates on the their condition have been released.
