HOUSTON, TX -- A 39-year-old man was charged with driving while impaired last Thursday, December 14, following a crash in north Houston that killed a pedestrian, reports the Houston Police Department.
The incident occurred in the 6100 block of North Shepherd Drive, in the city's Northside neighborhood, at around 9:35 p.m.
According to the HPD's Vehicular Crimes Division, the pedestrian, a 23-year-old man, was crossing the street outside of a designated crosswalk. At one point, he was struck by the suspect's black Volkswagen Passet, which was heading northbound.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was pronounced deceased by responding paramedics at the scene.
After questioning the male driver, Terran Gerrod Byrd, at the scene, authorities determined that he was intoxicated. Byrd, who was book into Harris County Jail, has since been charged with "driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Couty #1."
