HOUSTON, TX -- A woman died early Friday after her car crashed into a tow truck on North Freeway Service Road in north Houston's Cypress Station area, reports KHOU11.
The fatal wreck occurred on the inbound lanes of the frontage road near Cypress Station Drive, shortly after 2:00 a.m.
According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, a wrecker was working to remove an SUV that was stuck in mud in the median along the Interstate 45 main lanes and the southbound frontage road. The woman was driving a Honda southbound when she appeared to disregard the tow truck's warning lights, ultimately causing the car to slam into the truck.
Responding deputies confirmed the driver of the Honda died from her injuries at the scene.
The driver of the tow truck, who anticipated the crash and was able to exit his vehicle in time, was not reported injured.
All traffic on the North Freeway and all southbound lanes of the feeder road were blocked during the emergency response and initial investigation.
Shortly after 7:00 a.m., about five hours after the accident, all lanes were reopened.
