HOUSTON, TX – A wrong-way vehicle collided head-on with a METRO bus Tuesday morning in Houston’s Rice Military area, sending five people to the hospital, reports ABC13.
The accident happened on Memorial Drive at Shepherd Drive, near Buffalo Bayou Park, at around 5:00 a.m.
According to METRO Police, a Jeep was traveling in the wrong direction when it slammed into the front of the bus, which is contracted out through Transdev.
Firefighters had to pry open the Jeep to access its two occupants, who were rushed to a local hospital for unspecified injuries, along with the bus driver. Two passengers aboard the bus were also transported for evaluations.
Officials have not released a sequence of events leading up to the collision, but in a photo captured by a witness at the scene, the front-end of the bus appears to be smashed in, and significant damage can be observed on the wrong-way Jeep.
An investigation remains underway and no information regarding potential charges has been shared.
