HOUSTON, TX -- A driver suspected of impairment was arrested last Thursday night, October 5, following a crash that fatally injured a pedestrian, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Officials said the events unfolded in the 6800 block of Spindle Drive, in the Recreations Farms area, at around 8:23 p.m.
The HCSO's Vehicular Crimes Division found that the suspect, Alexis Eduardo Garcia Lopez, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado eastbound at the same time an adult male pedestrian was walking westbound near the road's south edge. At one point, the Chevrolet's right side-view mirror hit and seriously injured the pedestrian.
The victim was rushed to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Garcia Lopez, who displayed signs of intoxication at the scene, was taken into custody for DWI.
It remains unclear at this time whether the victim was walking in the roadway at the time of the fatal incident or whether Garcia Lopez veered out of his lane.
An investigation remains in progress.
