HOUSTON, TX -- Two young adults lost their lives early Friday following a rollover crash in southeast Houston that hurt two others, according to ABC13.
The wreck unfolded on northbound Interstate 45 at Exit 40B to eastbound I-610, in the Park Place area. It was first reported some time after 1:00 a.m.
Houston Police said patrol officers first observed a stolen vehicle in the area of Broadway Street and Santa Elena Street. The driver failed to comply to the officers' traffic stop, prompting a short chase.
Preliminary details indicate that about five minutes after the start of the pursuit, the fleeing driver failed to negotiate a turn into the I-610 exit from I-45. Moments later, the stolen vehicle hit the railing and then rolled onto its roof.
First responders pronounced the driver of the car and the front-seat passenger deceased at the scene, confirmed the HPD. While their identities have not been disclosed, both victims are believed to have been between 18 and 20 years of age.
The vehicle's two backseat passengers, a juvenile female and a man, were both transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
Authorities had the exit ramp shut down during the emergency response and investigation.
