HOUSTON, TX -- A 76-year-old man has succumbed to injuries suffered in a single-vehicle crash late last month in west Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
The accident was reported at 7887 San Felipe Street on Tuesday, November 28, at around 5:15 p.m.
Authorities said the victim, Donald Callahan, was operating a white Ford transit van eastbound on the road. At one point, for reasons not immediately provided, Callahan failed to maintain a single lane, causing the van to collide with the concrete curb along the roadway's side. The impact sent the van over into a grassy area, where it slammed into a brick pillar on the building housing Tarantino Properties, Inc. and the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation.
Callahan, who suffered critical injuries, was rushed to Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased on December 5, over a week later.
No other occupants or vehicles appear to have been involved, and no other injuries have been reported.
The HPD's Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate, but the victim is believed to have suffered a medical emergency just prior to the crash.
