HARRIS COUNTY, TX -- Multiple people, including two Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, were sent to the hospital Tuesday night after a pair of crashes near Katy, reports ABC13.
The events unfolded in the area of Mason Road and Merchants Way as the trooper was en route to assist in a pursuit.
Authorities said Harris County Sheriff's deputies and DPS troopers were following a woman who had fled a traffic stop with children in her car.
While entering the above intersection, the responding trooper's vehicle collided with the side of an 18-wheeler. While the trooper had to be extricated from his vehicle, he was rushed to the Texas Medical Center in walking and talking condition. Officials say he is expected to survive his injuries.
The woman is also said to have run over another trooper's foot while backing out of a garage at one point during the pursuit.
A PIT maneuver was ultimately used to stop the woman's car, and she was subsequently taken into custody. It's unclear whether she or any of her child passengers were hurt, but the trooper whose foot was run over was transported to a hospital.
An investigation remains ongoing.
