HOUSTON, Texas—Jason C. McLaurin, Attorney and Founding Member of McLaurin Law, released a statement following the devastation caused by a tornado on Tuesday, January 24. Officials estimate it will take weeks to clean up after the tornado shredded homes and businesses. The National Weather Service in Houston confirms that parts of Southeast Houston have experienced at least EF2 damage so far.
EF2 damage signifies that the tornado did extensive damage in terms of torn roofs from frame houses, destruction of mobile homes, pushed over boxcars, uprooted or snapped trees, and the transformation of light objects into projectiles. EF2 tornadoes come with 111-135 mph winds.
In particular, Deer Park, Baytown, and Pasadena felt the brunt of nature’s wrath. Between Deer Park and Pasadena, 25,000 students will miss out on school until further notice, with Pasadena reporting damage to at least four schools. City officials in all three communities have planned damage surveys.
At one point during the storm, more than 100,000 homes and businesses lost power, and although power had been restored for most, many were still in the dark on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday night, the Red Cross opened a shelter inside the Baker Ripley Building at 720 Fairmont Parkway.
“As a member of the community who cares deeply about everyone affected by this recent tornado, I want to first express my heartfelt condolences for the loss of homes and businesses, but also my gratitude that no one was killed. Although an event is traumatic and unsettling, I am here to help affected Houstonians with their residential and commercial property insurance claims. Many factors can influence the timeline of an insurance claim, including when you initiate the claim, the nature of the damage, and disputes over liability. That’s why it can be helpful to work with an attorney to ensure that the insurance carriers follow through with their responsibilities. It can also result in better compensation and fewer headaches and hassles for people already suffering. I invite anyone affected by this recent tornado to call us to schedule a strategy session with our firm at (713) 461-6500.”
