HOUSTON, TX -- A woman died early Thursday after a high-speed crash on an Interstate 45 Gulf Freeway underpass in southeast Houston, according to ABC13.
Houston Police said the fatal collision unfolded at Airport Boulevard while the woman was waiting at the intersection for a green light.
Preliminary details indicate a speeding vehicle crashed into rear of her car with a force that sent both vehicles past the intersection.
The driver and sole occupant of the victim car was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed officials.
First responders had the suspect transported to an area hospital, where the patient is expect to survive their injuries.
One witness told officers she had noticed the suspect approaching the intersection at a high rate of speed and was able to move her vehicle to the side in time.
Authorities have not confirmed the cause of the wreck at this time, but investigators are working to determine whether alcohol was a contributing factor. No charges have been reported as of this writing.
