HOUSTON, TX -- A man who is believed to have carried out an armed robbery Wednesday afternoon in north Houston died after his car struck a METRO bus, reports ABC13.
The collision took place at the corner of Ella Boulevard and West Airtex Boulevard. First responders were dispatched to the scene at around 1:30 p.m.
According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, soon after an aggravated robbery at the nearby Dollar General store, the suspect's vehicle collided with the bus.
Preliminary details indicate that the store manager opened gunfire on the suspect, who was struck by at least one bullet. The crash occurred moments after the suspect fled in a vehicle.
The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.
While a child was also observed receiving medical attention at the scene, it was unclear whether they were a passenger on the bus.
All northbound lanes of Route 099 from Ella to Airtex were blocked as crews tended to the scene.
