HOUSTON, TX -- Two people, including an HPD officer, were injured due to a two-vehicle wreck early Tuesday in west Houston, reports ABC13.
The incident took place on Westheimer Road near Wilcrest Drive, in the city's Briar Forest area. It was first reported some time after 4:00 a.m.
Preliminary details show a Houston Police Department officer was sitting in a marked unit and waiting at a red light when the vehicle was hit from the back by a Toyota Tundra pickup truck.
Footage capture at the scene shows significant damage to the rear side of the unit. The striking vehicle was also left crushed in and turned onto its side.
Despite the heavy damage to both vehicles, both drivers were hospitalized for minor injuries.
Authorities said they believe the driver of the pickup was impaired at the time of the wreck, but an investigation remains underway. The HPD said charges could be filed in the case.
