HOUSTON, TX -- A 57-year-old man died last Sunday, December 24, following a single-vehicle rollover wreck in Houston's Acres Home area, according to the Houston Police Department.
The HPD's Vehicular Crimes Division said the fatal accident happened at 8900 Wheatley Street. It was first reported at around 6:30 a.m.
Preliminary details show the victim was operating a red Toyota Avalon at a high rate of speed and was traveling northbound when the vehicle veered out of its lane and off of the roadway. Moments later, it hit a number of small trees and a utility pole before slamming into a flatbed tractor-trailer bed that was parked in the area. The car then flipped multiple times and burst into flames.
First responders pronounced the male driver deceased at the scene. No other occupants or vehicles appear to have been involved.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
