HARRIS COUNTY, TX -- A woman died last Saturday, January 13, following a two-vehicle collision on FM 2100 near Huffman, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
The wreck took place at the intersection with Old Atascocita Road and was first reported at around 3;37 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that Brenda Melton was driving a gold 2003 Ford Ranger eastbound in the 1400 block of Atascocita Road. As she neared the controlled intersection with FM 2100, she failed to stop at the stop sign. Moments after entering the intersection, the right passenger side of the Ford Ranger was hit by the front of a 2012 Ram 1500 traveling northbound on FM 2100.
First responders rushed Melton by HCA Airlife 12 to HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, where she was listed in critical condition. Officials confirmed she was pronounced deceased at about 4:50 p.m. that day.
In addition to the driver, the Ram 1500 was also occupied by two other adult occupants and two juvenile occupants. No one in the vehicle was reported hurt.
Authorities said the Ram 1500 driver cooperated at the scene and was not suspected of impairment.
