HOUSTON, TX -- A driver lost their life late Sunday after their Tesla collided with an Uber in downtown Houston, according to Click2Houston.
The fatal accident unfolded at the corner of Jefferson Street and La Branch Street, in the city's Central Business District. Houston Police and first responders rushed to the scene shortly after 11:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the Uber was waiting at a red light when it was rear-ended by the Tesla, which was traveling at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the Tesla, whose identity remains undisclosed, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger from the striking car was transported to an area hospital for unspecified injuries.
The occupants of the Uber, which included the driver and at least two passengers, were not reported hurt.
An investigation into the cause of the crash remains underway. Authorities have not said whether the Tesla was in self-driving mode at the time.
